Hi

Just a quick question re these lenses

Are the elements glass or plastic ?

Thanks

Glass.

What an odd question?

Is it odd ? a lot of modern lenses have plastic elements now , The 2 Fuji lenses I own are very light in weight and don't have that chunky glass feel

It's an odd question because it can so easily be checked on the Fuji website - http://fujifilm-x.com/xf-lens/

The descriptions of the 18mm, 35mm and 60mm specifically mention all glass elements and it's at least implied elsewhere that all XF lenses are all glass elements. It reads like they changed copywriter after the descriptions of the first generation lenses were written, so it's not quite as clear with subsequent lenses in their individual descriptions.

Cheers for the link , Just read it and cant find and mention of glass elements , Will look elsewhere , Silly me I though I would ask this question on a enthusiasts Photo web site , My mistake

18mm - http://www.fujifilm.eu/uk/products/digital-cameras/fujinon-x-mount-lenses/model/fujinon-xf18mmf2-r/
"Featuring an all-glass aspherical lens and other elements, the lens is polished to perfection and treated with Super EBC coating while the high-quality metal barrel and precision-machined 1/3-step aperture ring gives versatile control."

And from here - http://www.fujifilm.eu/uk/products/digital-cameras/fujinon-x-mount-lenses/ - you can read that even the XC range feature all glass elements. Elsewhere the descriptions might not be as clear because in lens design not all glass is glass, but that's not tosay that all non-glass is a plastic/resin - most people would consider some of the strictly non-glass elements to be glass (e.g. flourite elements aren't glass but they also aren't resin).

While I think you're right, and all the elements in the XF lenses probably are glass, the bits you quote don't actually say all the elements are indeed glass. The "all-glass" is specifically referring to the aspheric lenses. These are both expensive and difficult to make with conventional grinding and polishing, so a lot of applications use moulded plastic or resin aspheres. It therefore makes sense for Fuji to highlight that they go for all glass aspheres (and not e.g. compound apsheres with a moulded aspherical face bonded to a conventional glass blank/back)
