The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Makes no difference whether it's on or off, when the lens powers up the OIS goes mental then the error comes up. Wouldn't have minded if I could still use it minus OIS for Cornwall but noooo, it has to be awkward.

Try cleaning the contacts with IPA if you have any.

Once I get my canon kit sold I will be after an X-T1. Struggling a little with lens choice still. Ultimately I want the 56 as I intend to move more into portraits and perhaps one day weddings, but its quite a specialised lens as the only one to begin with. I also plan on taking some landscapes so trying to weigh up the 18-55 knowing that ultimately it won't get much use and the 23.

Prime combo 14/23/56 eventually would be great although the 10-24 for landscapes would suit well, its a bit larger and the F4 keeps it to good light or tripod situations only.

Any suggestions on where to start?

Depends on budget and if your only buying one lens initially. You won't go far wrong with the 18-55mm to start with, to me it's as good or better than some of the 17-50/55 f2.8 type lenses. First prime I would get is the 35mm, as a general lens it's excellent. I haven't owned the 56mm, but when I used the 60mm on my Xpro, I found it excellent for portraits, everyone has a different view on this lens, but to me it was fast enough with excellent IQ. Another lens which will give you flexability is the 55-200mm, again another excellent lens. To me Fuji don't make a bad lens, I have even had the 16-50 & 50-230 XC lenses and for the price you couldn't fault them.

Only you know how much money you have to spend, and then can make the decision when to go all prime route, (if that's what you want) and how long it's going to take you to get there. If I had the money, I would buy every lens Fuji make, they all have there uses.

Edit: Just looked at your selling prices for current kit, they are very close to what they are selling for new on HDEW (70d & 18-135, Not so much 35 art) Is the sale of these your budget for the Fuji or are you topping up a bit?

Hmm, my 18-55mm seems to have taken offence at spending most of the time on the shelf and has broken itself. OIS appears to have failed, all I get not is 'Lens Control Error' whenever I fit the lens. Looks like I'm going to be without it for my Cornwall trip in a couple of weeks.

Alan, may be worth formatting your SSD card on your computer uploading the the latest FW update, doing a factory reset on your Xt1 inserting the SSD and updating the FW. If all the contacts are clean then this is the only thing left to try.

Has anybody had any experience of the XT1 cashback offer? I decided to buy my XT1 and 18-55 kit from London Camera Exchange on 9/08/14. The shop gave me a claim form which I completed and sent to Fuji only to have it returned with the message "Not enough purchases were made". Odd I thought as the terms and conditions state that to claim you must "purchase an XT1 kit or body only and an XF lens (exc 18-135) in the same transaction". According to that definition I qualify!

After contacting them they have agreed to give me the cashback as they say their conditions were 'confusing'!

I also have another cashback for £200 pending for the purchase of two lenses a week or so later, I hope I get it.

Has anybody received cashback from them?

Got my 200 quid in just under a month from when I submitted the claim, say they aim to pay within 28 days which held true for me

Lenses had to be bought in one transaction from a retailer on the approved list, Amazon was ok, but not their marketplace sellers. Also had to wait for fourteen days from the date of purchase before submitting the claim, presumably so you didn't return the lenses for a refund and still claim the cashback

Had my £300 cashback in about 17 days on the last promotion in February 2014.

Pretty cool so much is still done by hand/eye.

Featuring the craftsmanship of FUJINON Lens, the lenses are hand-made in Japan.

Still no sign of the mythical replacement eyecup?

Wouldn't mind having a supermarket sweep in that factory. :D I wonder how may lenses they sell a year?

I ordered mine from Amazon, mid August. Just had another email from them saying they are still waiting for delivery from manufacturers. Has anybody got one yet?
Allan

I got fed up waiting for mine but was lucky to buy it from someone that didn't like it. My pre orders were taken from when Fuji announced the eyecup

Ordered my X-T1 and 18-55mm and it will be here tomorrow.

A question about adaptors. I'm thinking it would be nice to sometimes use older manual focus lenses but I'm not sure what adaptors are available. I have a nice Olympus 75-150mm and an M42 80-200mm which I wouldn't mind trying but can you get adaptors for Leica M fitting lenses or Nikon?

Cheers

Andy

Check Ebay, there are adapters for pretty much any lens ever made.

Excellent, I thought there might be. Any suggestions as to good makes or ones to be avoided.

Blimey, that's cheap. I was expecting them to be £50 or more.

Any suggestions for spare batteries? I think I am going to need a few.

That was going to be my next question as well.

I know this sounds utterly ridiculous, but this thread and the other Fuji threads somehow seem much more friendly than most of the others I've posted on.

The business section is brutal, and don't get me started on lighting

Fuji shooters must be just less arse-hole-like :D

You should visit the popular Nikon threads, always something exciting going on there.

It is a very friendly place, I'm going to like it in here.

If you want really friendly (and a nice drop of brandy in the afternoon) the film and conventional section is the place. Just like a proper Gentlemen's club, oak panelled walls, soft, old leather chairs and Roberts the concierge to look after everyone's needs. :D

I have a feeling that there might even be an OM adaptor in the classifieds. IIRC, there's an official Fuji M mount adaptor. As for other mounts, I thing that there are some that allow a degree of aperture control even on Nikon G lenses (without an aperture ring).

Adam, when I use my Nikons, I'm a right git but change completely when using my Fujis! These days I rarely use the Nikons. ;)

I have 3 batteries for my X-T and X-Pro but rarely need to change them unless I forget to charge after a full day's shooting. I have Tamrac neoprene straps fitted to both bodies and there are 2 pouches on each strap - just the right size for the batteries. I know that I'll only run out of battery if I grab the X-Pro and forget to transfer the spare batteries across to its strap!

Much cheerier here because we have had all the weight lifted from our shoulders, literally

I have bought the cheap £10 lens adapters from ebay, after reading the Sony A7 thread where the members were not finding much difference from the expensive ones to the cheapies.

I had a M42 one and the way it works, theres an inner ring within the main body of adapter which the lens fits to, it's usually aluminum and is screwed into the main body. This is held in place by grub screws. The one I had there was a swarf where the holding screws had cut in the aluminum, to correct this I wrapped the holding ring with PTFE tape which cured the problem. I thought I would mention it as it's something to bare in mind and I would have been pi**ed if I had swarf on my sensor. You can get the more expensive adapters like Kipon & Novoflex.

As Nod has mentioned, fuji do make a Leica to Fuji adapter, bit pricy at £169.00 though. > http://www.calphoto.co.uk/product/331-777R?kpid=331-777R&gclid=CIie65_srsECFRMatAodHngAiQ

I have also been using the EXpro batteries from Amazon and as mentioned, they perform as good as the originals. > http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ex-Pro-1260...=1413382579&sr=8-1&keywords=Fuji+xpro+battery

Thanks Simon. Those batteries are very reasonable, might have to get a couple.

Has anyone ordered an XT1 from fuji refurb recently? Did it have the new or old style directional pad?

It's a toss up between refurb or grey

I had one in July and the D pad in mine was mushy, it also had other faults so I sent it back. I then bought from Panamoz and IMO the newer one is much more responsive. Also, at the time Panamoz were £130.00 cheaper than the refurb, although currently they are around the same price after using the Paypal 12 discount code with Fuji refurb.

I wouldn't go with a refurb because of the light leak and mushy d pad. Just not worth it unless you're prepared to send it back and wait for a refund etc.

Its here and I'm loving it already. A beautifully engineered and designed piece of machinery.
Might have time later to take it out for a trial run.
