Garden Plants (Feedback Please)

Hi all,
Still a newbie and this is my first post on here so please be gentle!
Picked up a new lens last week (Nikon 50mm f1.8), finally had a chance to have a quick play with it in the garden this evening.
Here's one I took, I was hoping to get some feedback and advice, what's good, what's not so good, could be better etc.

Nice Crocosmia and some mega DOF! Maybe too much? Personally i would have shot from the side away from the rest of the flower and try and get it 'dangling' if that makes sense?

Ok thanks, I wanted too see how shallow it would go as it's the lowest f stop lens I've owned. If this rain/thunder/storm ever stops I'll have another go tomorrow. Maybe if its still wet I could get some water droplets as well!

Yep, water drops dangling off the tips from the side will be a good shot.

Just take lots of shots and experiment with different settings. But most of all have fun doing it.

It's my first fully manual lens as well. I'm not sure how old it actually is, probably older than me! It was too good to miss though, mint condition and a really good price. Also a nice little learning opportunity for me, no autofocus and manual aperture!
