Garden Safari Part Deux

Brilliant angle on that first one. I love how it is striding towards us. I'm a bit confused about the settings though, perhaps you can shed some light? I thought the DoF was very narrow, and I would have preferred it a bit deeper, but the EXIF data on Flickr says it was at F22. I thought this would be plenty, but maybe Nikon records the effective aperture on their macro lenses?

The second is another great composition, the angle and the shape made by the body and antenna work brilliantly. Interesting lighting on this one. It looks like the subject is slightly in shadow compared to the background, but it's providing a bit of a 3D effect and separating the 2 nicely.

Thanks Tim.

I suspect it's because there's a Raynox 250 attached to the Macro lens, a Tokina 100, at minimum focus distance.

The width of the fly's head is rather less than 1mm.

You're quite right about the shield bug being in shade.

Again Simon some good stuff here from you & I am glad you are sharing with us all (y)

Both great my favourite is the shield bug though excellent composition :)
