Beetle larva. Rhagophthalmidae? Or Phengodidae? I spotted it only because it glowed in the dark! Moving non-stop! Selangor, Malaysia.

Another great set of images Kurt, #1, & #3, of the Lacewing are "Stunning" with great composition and lighting. #8 of the Jungle Roach for me has everything with excellent detail, good composition, spot on exposure and really nice tight framing.(y)

George.

Wonderful Kurt

Thanks, Bill.

A beautiful lacewing indeed! I think that is the best portrait of a cockroach I have ever seen though! It's as if it's posing for you especially.

Any ideas what that light circle is below the eye and beside the antenna? I thought at first it was a blemish on the photo (God forbid) but studying it further I can see what looks like another of the opposite side. Some kind of sensory pit perhaps?

You did well to get that larva glowing in the dark. Did you manage to hand hold it?

Great set Kurt and I too wonder how you managed the glow shot. Did you shine some light on it or is this from the moon?

Thanks, Timmy. Those light circles are on all roaches of this species. I have photographed a different specimen before:

I turned off my speedlight (270EX), changed my setting to ISO1600, 1/30, F2.8. Handheld. I spotted that larva because it glowed in the dark in the first place.

Thanks, Bryn. That larva didn't need any light to glow. It's from within :D. I turned off my speedlight (270EX), changed my setting to ISO1600, 1/30, F2.8. Handheld. I spotted that larva because it glowed in the dark in the first place.

Very very sharp, brilliant.

Thanks, Andrew.

Beautifully captured light on the wing in the first shot. It reminds me of some Art deco.

Thanks, T0p cat.
