The first thing I like about this, is that I couldnt tell it was HDR so the disguise has worked well (y), however my question is why hdr? (not having a go, asking a valid question of why would you HDR this particular scene? especially 5 shots, 3 would have been enough, theres just not that much tonal range I would imagine) - I like HDR though have cut down using it because I find that unless Im dealing with a lot of dark and light areas in a room, for example, its just not needed.

As Carl says, you've cracked the most important thing - it doesn't look HDR.

The scene doesn't matter when you're experimenting with method. I get that.

I spot meter the darkest and lightest areas and take as many shots as necessary to cover the range in 1 stop increments.

Hi Geof
My advice is go for it with both barrels and take no prisoners.
