How do you insure your equipment?

Home insurance.
CLIIK.
Photoguard.
Tower.
etc, etc.

Thanks, I will look at those companies.
Home insurance is questionable due to value.
Do you use/recommend any one in particular?

Apology to everyone too for my appalling spelling in the thread title!
Can't seem to amend either.

I use CLIIK for a full service inc liability etc.
Many here suggest avoiding Aduki and E&L.

As an add-on (~£6k specific items) to home insurance = ~£50 /year

Only ever used home insurance. I did enquire with Barclays but as soon as I started making a list of gear they were quick to move my costs up, for what is quite poor cover.

Jl home insurance 43 for 10K as an add on all risks. 2K single limit, 5K from locked car.
Matt

Like most things like this it isn't always easy to find something that covers all specifics. We went with Photoguard in the end. The big stumble block was we needed car cover to cover all the kit and couldn't find one that would do it.

At present I'm with Aaduki. Not had a problem with them yet but I've never had to claim (yet)
Firstly I was with E&L (Equine and Livestock) but they wont insure it in a car boot unless the ONLY way in to the boot is through the locked boot lid. If you have an estate with a roll out cover - NOT insured. If you have a hatchback - NOT insured. If you have a normal booted car with armrest access - NOT insured. If you have folding rear seats - NOT insured. That leaves not many cars that they WILL cover you for - maybe an original Mini or MK 2 Escort - that sort of thing:(
Aaduki have it listed that a roll out cover is acceptable in lieu of a hard parcel shelf on my policy:)
I pay just over £100 for £5K of cover

I forget who I'm with but it covers gear and Public Liability, I want to say PhotoGuard. I'd have to look. £200 for 8k of gear, PLI and the gear being anywhere (left in car etc)

Thats sounds a really good deal, really need to get my gear insured now, does Photoguard cover used equipment?
Aaduki covers used gear - you just have to supply the serial numbers for it.
Think it has public liability too - must check that.

£12k cover for kit + liability, in car, hired equipment etc £290 with CLIIK

We hoped we could have used Cliik, heard lots of good prices from them but the restrictions on the car limit cover was just too low.

What restrictions did you find unacceptable?

Photographic equipment, laptop computers and other electronic equipment left in an Unattended Vehicle
between the start and end of the Insured’s working day are covered. The maximum the Underwriters will
pay is GBP 15,000 or the sum insured shown in the schedule, whichever is less.

I wish I actually had £15k of camera equipment!
Anyway, many thanks for all the replies, I had forgotten I posted this!
it's not a huge amount of equipment, probably no more than £2500 with accessories so sounds like I shouldn't have too many problems with things like car cover.
Just wanted to see which are the most reliable companies to use.

Home contents insurance 'all risks'/'personal possessions away from home' has always worked for me. Anything over the single item limit is 'specified'.

Aside from the max value in a car issue, are there any other things missing from policies that you guys would like to see included?

Cover for taking gear on water. That was another one that cropped up with 2 of the people that we looked at. Absolutely no cover given if you take gear on a canoe, kayak, open row boat. Didn't get to see the small print on the schedule to see exactly what else was excluded.

Aaduki cover water damage - as long as you retrieve the camera / lens. No good if it's at the bottom of a lake but for an extra premium I think they will cover that too

They were extremely expensive for us.

Thanks Jasmine, that's very interesting.
If you think of any more please don't hesitate to let me know - hopefully this may lead to something beneficial for all.
Cheers

Do you work for an insurance company Tom? Just wonder what you're going to do with the information as I have a few ideas but I'd like to know where they're going if I do pass them to you? Nothing grand but if a policy suddenly announces it has my ideas implemented into it I'd be hopeful of getting something for them! My wife works in insurance and she was quizzical as to why a photographer would ask for forum users to send him ideas for insurance?

It may well be completely innocent but you have piqued my curiosity!:thinking:

Sorry Steve I can't really divulge any info. It was more just a general thing to see if anyone thought anything in particular was missing in any policies on their gear, and if so what would they like to see. It was really just rising out of a thought that it could benefit both the photographers on here and the industry itself if this dialogue was open. If you have specific and tangible ideas I agree, best not publicise them, you should be credited with them, which I'm sure you wouldn't be if they were just posted here!
Cheers
