How to work our exposure for IR

Hi All

OK, thinking of purchasing an IR lens to experiment with. How does one calculate shutter speed length for IR shots...? Is it just experimentation...?

If you're using something like an R72, try an exposure of around 15-20 seconds and adjust from there, it'll depend of your camera's IR sensitivity though.

On my D300 with a heavy IR filter, the exposure went from ~ 1/60th of a second to 4 minutes
