ID please

Can only see a tiny version of the picture but going purely from the general shape and colour, I would say that's either a Grape Hyacinth or a Bluebell. Have a Google for images of those 2 and see if they're anything like it.
 
Thanks I should have said the bulb is the size of a mans fist

Looks like an Agapanthus - grows like a weed all over the Scilly Isles. I believe it originates from South Africa. You might get it to grow in Southern England but it is not generally hardy enough for northern climes.
