Taken just as the Sun set behind Cat Bells whilst standing on the incredibly frozen Derwent Water (I did check if it was safe), it was worth the cold feet I think.

Many hundreds in fact, including ice skaters and 20 or so kids on bikes.

Sure looks cold out there Andy ... and how do you check that it's safe to walk on? I guess if the ice doesn't crack and you don't suddenly "disappear", then it's safe, right? :shrug: Nice shot too, btw!

I checked with one of the park wardens who said that it was over 4 inches thick so safe.

I believe it was about -2 degrees.
