Thanks again, everyone. I've had another play - I thought the bubble was a bit messy, so I redid that and put some motion blur onto the knife... Any better...?

Much better. The bubble actually looks more like a bubble now.

Great idea Chris and well shot. The second version is far better IMO but the reflections are a bit symetrical. I'd lose the two white dots altogether. Try a smear type tool set to a small diameter and low opacity to just make a difference to the reflections on either side.

Thanks for the tips and comments, guys. I'll try them out tomorrow at some point... Strange you should say it looks more like a bubble, Marcel... The only parts of it that I caught were the catchlights and the green/blue/pink lines. The outline and shading were all done in PS, as was the duplication from one set of lines to the other - hence the symmetry...
