Need to clear some of those grasses/reeds for next time ... well done on the capture, I love these birds

Looks like it's suffering from a fair bit of motion blur/camera shake as its pretty soft all over.

Slowish shutter speed for the focal length acording to the exif. the 7D actually gives better results at iso 640 than it does at 400 so upping the iso would have given you the scope to increase the ss and gain a sharper outcome.

It is sharper on Flickr John, nice wing blur, it is a shame about the background, I haven't been doen for a few weeks

Head nice and sharp viewed on Flickr , the water droplets with the catch and the wing blurr makes a nice action shot
