Lee Filters Adaptor Ring Question

I've currently got a Sigma 10-20mm and have used the Lee 77mm wide angle adaptor with it. I'm now changing my set up and will be mainly using a Canon 17-40mm instead. Does the 17-40 still need the wide angle adaptor or will a standard adaptor suffice. I believe that the wide angle adaptor sits further back on the lens than the standard version

As far as i know. You need a wide angle adaptor on 18mm or less. So i would say yes you do need a wide angle adaptor.

There's nothing to lose by continuing to use the recessed adapter on any lens.

on a 40d you should be ok with the standard ring and 17-40.

There is one lens that the wide angle adaptor with the recessed ring won't work on, and that is the 85mm f1.2 as it limits the focusing range, however this is very much the exception.

The wide angle adaptors are however quite a bit more expensive than the standard ones, so no point in buying unless necessary.

I've got a Hightech Wide Adapter and it won't fit to some of my Nikon lenses, due to the molding thats in place to attach a lens hood.

Yes that's true, from the OP I assumed he already had the WA version.

Thanks for the replies. I already have the WA version so it looks like I will be keeping it rather than it appearing for sale in the classifieds!

I had the 17-40 and lee filter kit and was advised on the wide adaptor so got it and was very pleased with the results.
