Yes
Ive just bought a 1d mk3, tried a sigma 18-50 2.8 on it but get bad vignetting.

What would you recommend ? would i still get it with a canon 17-40 ?

Thanks

No, you will not get any vignetting, the 17-40 will give you the AOV of a 26-60mm FF equiv so it won't be as wide as the 18 -50mm would have been.

Quite a bit dearer that lens :) must be a sigma issue lol

No not a Sigma Issue, there are two types of Canon EOS mount. there is the EF mount which fits all EOS cameras and the EF-s mount which only fits the smaller APS-c sensor fitted cameras such as the xxxd, xxd & 7D cameras.

The 1D series and 5D series require EF lenses.

Sigma make lenses to fit both types, but you have to be careful as to which lenses you use on the larger sensor'd cameras.

If the Sigma lens you have is this one then it's not supposed to work. It's a Sigma "DC" lens which means it's designed to fit cameras with APS-C sized sensors, e.g. the Canon 1.6x crop and the Nikon 1.5x crop.

Any Canon "EF" lens or Sigma "DG" lens should work.

Many thanks, will keep an eye out for DG ones ;)
