Little Egret and Grey Heron fishing.

Taken a few weeks ago at Long Pool in Mana Pools NP, Zimbabwe, where a few of the birds have learnt to fish the treacherous waters from the backs of hippo's, behaviour I haven't seen elsewhere.

Is that really a crocodile swimming past the hippos in the heron shot? The first really puts the egret in perspective.

Jan - yep, that is a croc in the foreground.....you can se another in the background, just behind the heron. There are an astonishing number of crocodiles in Long Pool.

I hadn't seen the second croc. That's quite scary, but at the same time fascinating to see such different creatures coexisting.

The crocs need to be careful - I have seen what Herons can eat
