Loving the nifty fifty

Had a nifty fifty delivered on Saturday so found an excuse to play around with my grandson..

I can now understand why people love this lens.

Only got the onboard flash at present so would welcome hints on how improve the lighting.

The flash looks a little strong on this one. If on camera flash is all you have then you'll need to dial it down a touch for shots like this or try and get your subject in to a better lit area so that you can avoid using flash at all.

Yes, direct flash has left this one with a rather too well lit back of the mouth, which is a bit distracting, in fact very distracting. Bounced or diffused flash would be much better

Question is whether you needed the flash at all. At f1.8 you should be getting decent shutter speeds anyway in a "normally" lit room (dial it to ISO 400+).

yep i agree, the idea with such a fast lens is to open the aperture right up, dial in a reasonably high ISO and you can take pictures in quite low lighting without flash
i love it! everyone always asks when my camera is the only one not flashing
give it a go and let us know how you get on

Thanks for the advice, will give that ago and turn the flash of and up the ISO for my next atempt
