Saw a few of these when I was in Canada earlier this summer but this was the only one I managed to get close to and even that wasn't for long :( Also it was in the shade which was a bit sucky so made do at F4 1/180 ISO640

Any ideas what it's called? I'm too lazy to look lol

As an uneducated guess I would say Sawfly. It could be an ichneumon as they tend too have large ovipositors like this, but the "top end" reminds me more of our sawfly species. They are all related though, part of the order Hymenoptera which includes wasps, bees and ants.

Cool looking bug! nice capture.

Edit: Ok a bit of googling and I was wrong on both counts. It looks like a pelecinid, possibly Pelecinus polyturator.

I was expecting a cooler name than that! It's related to Wasps but it doesn't have a stinger so that instantly makes it my favourite kind of Wasp lol

Really cool shot. I think it's an Ichneumon wasp but I am no expert in this. I know a Facebook Hymenopteran group where you can post this for ID :)

Edit: oops...just saw Timmy's post and ID.
