Considering ONE of these lenses bu:bang::bonk:t dont know which is the better to go for. They are both in the 1-1.2k price bracket
 
i'd personally go for the 24-70, as it has that bit of extra reach, unless you use the wide angle end a lot
 
I imagine both are optically excellent so it depends on what you shoot really... have a look at the EXIF on your current shots and see where you do most of your shooting!
 
I would go for 24-70 as well
As you can have 12-24mm Nikon/Tokina/Sigma to cover the wide angle bit.
 
What camera do you have, the 17-55 is a dx lens, fine if you're using a dx camera but worth remembering if you're thinking of going fx
 
17-55 :love:. I have one and love it. If thats not on my camera, i have the 70-200 there. I dont really miss the 55-70 range, but would hate not to have the wide angle that 17mm gives me.

I believe he has a D300 at present.
