I'm thinking of buying a 24-70 f2.8 for grid and paddock work at race tracks but am worried it might be a bit too long, does anyone else use this combination and if so how have they found it ?

The 17-35 suggestion is one I will chase up, I hadn't considerd that before, I have a 70-200 so naturally had the 24-70 in mind.

hang on, FX lens on DX sensor when there is dedicated DX lenses already...cheaper tamron 17-55mm f2.8 and Nikon 17-55mm f2.8, these are equal to 24-70mm on FX...

I had looked at the 17-55 as an option , however the posibility of moving to FX next year held me back, I know it is a good lens.

The tamron 17-50 2.8 is just as good, and cheap as chips used. There's always someone selling, and looking for one, so they get passed on a lot - i.e, you'll have no trouble selling it when you upgrade ;)
