Nikon D90 Lens

The lens on my nikon d90 is a 18-105 VR. Everytime i press the shutter release half down it makes a small cliking noise, then a second later it makes it again, if i hold my finger on the shutter release it will make it but if i carry on holding it the second click wont come unless i take my finger off. It's only very suttle, and may just be how the lens works, it's just slightly annoying.

Just tried mine and the only noise I can really notice is the focus.

Have you tried it with VR turned off ?

It sounds like the VR engaging and disengaging. Turn the VR off and I bet you don't hear it any more.

My 70-300VR makes a similar noise so i'd agree with the above; VR related and not a problem.

Yeah i turned the VR off and the noise was no more, thanks alot people.

I used a Nikkor lens with VR for the first time a few weeks ago and noticed the same thing - I thought it had a fault until I went into a camera shop and tried out the same lens.

I'm used to the Sigma OS which you don't notice at all...
