looks very cheap. which would suggest to me too good to be true!

good luck(y)

personally i wouldnt be too happy buying software off ebay, i would be even more cautious with such items when the person selling has only sold 11 items before. all be it with good feedback

Be interested to hear again when it arrives.

I bought CS3 from an ebay seller, also a bundle of US origin, it was £170 in November 2007. At the time the best deal I could find in the UK was nearly double that.

However, the $ was nearly two to the pound, and I could check out the guy through feedback and links to his software website. I could even see where he worked for a day job and further links to his personal website.

The exchange rate is less favourable now, and this seller has no apparent feedback for selling software, in fact precious little feedback for selling anything.

So, buying software, or indeed anything else, through ebay isn't the problem, but there doesn't seem to be enough evidence on this one to make a decision.

(Oh and the guy I dealt with gave up when the exchange rate became less favourable)

At one time it was cheaper to fly to New York - buy photoshop and fly back - rather than buy in the UK!

Really tempted by this, anyone know how you would get a licence to run it on 2 machines if you owned both?

Chris.

( Sorry for the slight hijack) :)

It wasn't far off that when I bought it then. I wanted it as a Christmas present for my partner, but when we were in NYC 3 months later I did look to compare. The best I could do was £195 plus NY sales tax. Return flights then around £230, UK price of CS3 around £400-£500

I thought it worth a bash. I've never had Photoshop before short of using the 30 day trial and couldn't justify spending £500-£600 on it. I've bought brand-new unregistered software from Ebay sellers before with some success. I saved over £600 on the last version of Visual Studio.

We'll see how this one goes but based on the description it seems ok and 63 pieces of positive feedback since 2004 suggests its not a newbie trying a quick con.

I purchased CS4 from the internet - EBAY - Dodgy copy - The serial Gen worked initially, then upon re-opening the software - it said it was te wrong keygen. Phoned Adobe and they said they hadn't even heard of those numbers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. The outside box is the sealed one. So you have to open the package to get to the disk. If you paid by PAYPAL - you should be covered, as long as the seller agrees, otherwise it could be a while before you get your money back (if at all).

I was wondering if anyone had a copy that has a double licence and only uses it on one machine, if they would like to share???????

I am assuming the double machine licence allows that.

Yeah PayPal Protection is intended to protect you against just that. If it were to happen it would simply be a case of getting confirmation from Adobe that the licence was invalid and forwarding it to PayPal dispute.

Fingers crossed its nothing like that anyway. I dug a bit further in his feedback and found he has bought things from another seller in Bradford who is selling identical copies of CS4. I'm not sure what this proves though. There's obviously some mates relationship there.

Andy.

Hmmm.... I wonder whether what's happened here is that he's bought a 5 licence multi-pack and is selling them separately. Apparently this isn't allowed and would eventually lead to the licence being invalidated.

I notice from searching completed listings that he’s had a few goes at selling these copies whilst reducing the price each time. He has 4 for sale and his mate Graham has one.

I've asked him to confirm that.

Andy.

He's replied straight back saying he can confirm it definitely wasn't bought as part of a multi-pack licence.

Seems quite genuine. He's getting it in the post this afternoon. We'll see what happens. I have to say I'm slightly sceptical given the experiences I’ve read here today.

I have to admit I'm not getting a great feeling about this one. I got an email from Ebay saying the advert had been removed. Gave him a call and he said mine had been posted but he removed the advert because his supplier couldn't get any more.

Some further Googling got me more concerned.

I guess we'll see what turns up but I'm not holding my breath for great things.

I got my CS4 for free. A friend who used to own a PC shop bought a 10 user licenses and Abode sent him 100.
He called them but Adobe insisted they only sent him 10 and that was that.

A further note to this.

You might only receive the the serial, i know for a fact certain countries get massive amounts of serials for buttons as a way of Adobe trying to get a foothold in those countries.
Usually what happens though is they find there way to owners of companies etc and they sell the serial to people in other countries for £100 or so quid and the buyers just download a version from certain sites and use their valid serial.

You're spot on there. It arrived Saturday morning and although the packaging looks very genuine Adobe Customer Services just confirmed it as a counterfeit serial number.

The seller has agreed to a full refund. Oh well. Worth a punt. :)

Its incredible the trouble someone has gone to though. The box, manual and screen pressed DVD all look very convincing. You honestly couldn’t tell just by looking at it.

Andy.

Glad it hasnt cost you anything(y)

make sure you report it to ebay, dealing dodgy goods normally gets account suspension as well i think

Very sad, but glad it won't cost anything.

I still think American sourced will be cheaper than UK, though not the bargain it once was.

I'm still using American software for work that cost in dollars what it would cost in pounds in the UK, when dollars were two to the pound.

The guy removed the auction on Friday evening so I don't think I can post feedback now. I think I'll have to report it direct to Ebay.

I got his phone number from PayPal and called him after the advert had been removed which I think may have ****** him up a bit. At the time he said he had to remove it because his supplier couldn't get any more. Then on Saturday morning he emailed me to say that Ebay had removed the auction and he didn't know why. If I wasn't happy I could have a full refund and keep the product.

That tells me he didn't value it very highly even before the postman had been.

Cheers for making me more suspicious. :)

Andy.

in other words he knows it is dodgy

Did you pay with paypal?
If so and the issue can't be resolved between the two of you, they can get the money back off him for you. Check out the rules! You open a resolution issue or something like that. takes a while, but should work.

It's pretty sad that Adobe have priced Photoshop at such a level, people are resorting to this. I mean seriously, it's over £400 just for the bloomin' upgrade! Is it really £550 worth of software? I've got an acquired version of Photoshop on my computer at the moment and I'm tempted to remove it and see whether I can use something different such as Pixelmator or even GIMP for a week or so and see how I cope. I used to do a lot more in Photoshop than I do now, and these days it's mostly resizing/cropping images as to doing anything more serious, as I'm using Capture NX now for my photo editing.

I got CS3 web premium off a friend of a friend who works for Adobe, £50 well spent I say :D(y)

I bought most of my Adobe stuff when the pound was £1-$2 (Lightroom 2 for £40!)

Bloody rip-off now.

I agree.
That's a (bloody nice) new lens price........

Yeah all sorted. I've received a PayPal refund from him.

I've had a few emails from Adobe piracy department this afternoon too. They want to open a case on him and were asking for all the details. I don't suppose he's going to enjoy this. :D

Andy.

Suggest they may want to reciprocate with a big discount.

Indeed!

Looks like Adobe are going to make an example of him, but they should check ebay as a whole, it's rife with this kind of thing :(

Chris.

Yeah Adobe has also asked me to send the software to them as evidence. I guess I should do as they ask. The Ebay guy has also asked me to send it back so 'he can get the money back from his supplier'. Yeah right!

Legally I think I'm right in saying that the software should either be sent to the company being defrauded or surrender it to the police. I'm not 100% sure though. I'm quite sure counterfeit goods shouldn’t go back to the seller though even if he has refunded the money. Anyone know for sure?

Andy.

Having something like serial generator in a bundle should warn you straight away that this was not a legitimate Photoshop copy...
