Roses were cut and placed on a black backing board, highlights blown.

first one is OK...I'm not sure whether the second one is over saturated, i.e. it's a too red for my liking - you say the highlights are blown so maybe that's the effect you wanted :shrug:

I like the first one a lot. Love the lighting giving the rose a beautiful texture. In the 2nd the roses have a velvety quality which is nice
