Small and light weight Nikon DX

Dear all, after using mostly AF lenses I am looking for small and light weight lenses for Nikon DX (D300). Reason is: I found a wonderful small lens Vivitar 28/2.8 close focus (filter 49 mm). I compared it with the Nikon 35/1.8 . It was a surprise how good that old small lens is. Wonder if no other lens will be found in addition.

Nikon is great, also the 50/1.8 E. Looking for more wide and 2time zooms. My favorite zoom at F100 the 35-70/2.8 AFD its a wonderful but heavy lens. Any 24-50 low weight and small ? Why not old 3party ... vivitar, kiron, ... . ?
