Two mugs, with postage (very quick) worked out at £11.97 for the posh porcelain option.
A straightforward image with no text is cropped to cover 100mm x 65mm, and they position it so it faces the user and most of the outward facing surface is plain white. Padding an image with white borders worked well, to avoid them cropping to their aspect ratio. I haven't been back to the site to see whether a panoramic image would be allowed, which would go right round the mug: 170mm x 65mm might work.
There was a little pink smearing around the edges (despite it being a green image), but the recipient was very happy.
