Did you use two lights, one above and one below?
Im saying that due to the catch lights in his eyes or is that just a reflection off something else?

How long did he last before he got bored and upped and left? haha
Good shot though :)

iso 100,f8 shutter 100,
2 lights used ,one behind him bounce on the background, 2nd at 45 x45
reflector in the front to take shadow of his neck
so leaving a shadowed look to his broad side

his been ok today lol,

I find it quite a pleasing portrait.

I would liked to have retained a little detail in his jacket, rather than go to pure black on a white background, but skin tones and shadow loks good to me.

thanks for replying,
i can see some details to the black part of jacket,to lefthand side

it looks quite soft to me, maybe that is deliberate though as you clearly know what you're doing.

purpleclouds thats my son even with his big hair lol.

me iam the one in the avitar

hair today gone tommrow :D playing around with ma new 85mm lens, using the window behind me for light, hence the two catchlights looking in the eyes

1.2 can be an overkill. It is one of the best lenses, but for this I would pick 100mm macro at f/8 over any other! He doesn't need to have flattering skin, does he? 1.2 is best for women and kids to give extra smooth skin!

First one looks great though. I would only leave less space on the left to give him more space on the right.

he does have a few blemishes, thats when you see him without hoodie or cap or stayes put,
thanks for the tips, other lens are 24-70 or 70-200

I prefer the first one, what I said about the detail, could well be my cheap monitor not to mention my poor old eyes:)

I don't think the shallow depth of field suits the last image that well, but then thats down to personal taste, hope you dont mind. He looks a different chap with the haircut.

And the 85mm is a great combo with the 5D IMHO.

ill do some more soon, when i get to sit for a few photo
try f4.5 -f8 ? or even smaller ?

And the 85mm is a great combo with the 5D IMHO
i pefer the 40d and 70 -200 for head and shoulders ?

No no, not you :)

I like todays...the colour version being my fave! The background colour is really complimentary of his eyes and skin tones! :)

cheers, not too keen on white back grounds, or blue lol[the 2 i have at the mo]
