Springtail Suppertime

This little springtail (actually reasonably large) was enjoying a meal on (I think it was) an aphid.

Used a large crop of course, with off camera flash via remote trigger, camera with 3 extension tubes on, remote release and mirror lock up.

What a great find lucky the lens sharpness is so good can crop so largely.

That's where I find the reversed lens better as I don't need to crop. :)

Well now that is interesting. I didn't know springtails were carnivores, I always thought they were vegetarians. My guess is it would have found the aphid already dead rather than hunting it down, but happy to be informed otherwise ;)

Its giving the aphid the kiss of life.
