Taking pictures of the snow

Some tips please?

Assuming the light improves I think I'll try for some snow scenes.

Can I have some guidance please on apertures, filters etc which will help me take a better shot.

You need to add 1-2 stops compensation as the white will fool the meter into underexposing. Aperture depends on how much DOF you want/need. Filters not necessary but perhaps a polarizer. This was a naked lens shot.
