I've been looking at the Tamron 150-600 for shooting at LeMans this year (Spectator side of the fence) as my Canon 70-200 isn't long enough to avoid large crops.
I have a 7D (mk1).
The 7D is reported as having issues on AI Servo at anything above 450mm.
The 5DIII is seemingly fine all the way out to 600mm.
From what I've read, both need f5.6 for accurate AF (the Tamron is f6.3 at 600mm, so I guess higher than the 7D is happy with from 450mm)
I appreciate that the 5DIII is 3 years younger than the 7D, but as they are both rated similarly, how is it that it can focus (on AI Servo) with the aperture stopped down to f6.3 whereas the 7D can't. I known the focus mech is not the same; 19 vs 61 AF points...
Or... Are the reports I've read wrong? What does the collective experience of TP have to say on the 5DIII combined with the Tamron 150-600 in AI Servo mode.
