I like the muted colours in no.2. For me personally there is too much going on in no.1 to make it effective as a black and white - do you have it in colour?
I didn't really think the colour version worked. I'll post a copy here tonight and you can see for yourself. In particular, the brown vegetation in the foreground was a bit messy.

I actually think I prefer no.1 in colour but if we liked the same things the world would be so boring. That just goes to show there is no right or wrong in photography, just personal preferences. I think they are both great shots by the way.
