Quick edits, any tips on how to improve them in CS2 would be much appreciated.

You have captured the love between these two. I find the flare draws the eye away from the subjects a bit in the first one. You could tone that flare down in PS.

How do I tone it down? I wanted to capture the sun in the image a bit to capture the warmth between father and son.

I just did a few minutes work on the photo. Was limited with the small size but you should get my idea. To reduce the flare I first do a levels adjustment to reduce the overall brightness of the image but then applied a layer mask so it only affected the bright area. then I did a burn on the bright part of the hair. Finally I applied a cooling filter to make the colour more natural. The last step is a personal choice depending on the feeling you are after.
