Tough to get the exposure just right when the subject, like this one, is very dark, but you've done well here (maybe the eyes are a bit close to losing detail...but are still ok.)
I agree that the background is a bit distracting. Not sure what lens you used, but a larger aperture (smaller DOF) could help blur that background and center attention on your cat.
