Trying to get creative

Doesn't work for me looks like she has a plaster on her nose also her left eye is cut off by the background.

Check out the double exposure tutorial from PHlearn on YouTube.

What effect were you aiming for/what do your see with the addition of the effect?

Chris
I saw it in a Photoshop magazine and wanted to do the same with my own pictures and like what I got. You could say it was a Photoshop exercise that I was trying to learn and managed to achieve what I set out to do, thats pretty much it.............Just learning how to take my photography another step forward

.
I planned it that way..............I only wanted to show half her face

Why?

Not sure what you're trying to say. Does the image you've tried to obscure her with have some significance to her?

I have seen some beautiful double exposures but I'm sorry to say this doesn't work for me either, it does look like a plaster over her nose and I much prefer personally to see the whole of the person double exposed rather than half!

I take it the first time you processed a double exposure you nailed it first time............and personality I like it the way it is and so does my wife

What's the point in posting in a feedback section, then getting annoyed when you don't like the feedback?
It's certainly different, but I think as only yourself and your wife know the significance of the double exposure, then it probably won't "work" for anyone else.

Who's getting annoyed? I'm just saying that this is the first time I have tried doing something like this in Photoshop and both me and my wife like it. I am sure that there is room for improvement like anything anyone does first time around but I will say it again it was planned that way and the bandaid will come off next week once the specialist has checked it out

Yes it does

Well unless I also know what that is, it's just going to be a random double exposure for me... or anyone else. The image you've used seems skewed in aspect as well... squashed vertically... which isn't helping.

If you're serious about this... maybe a series of images, that gradually give clues and allude to the meaning of the overlaid image would work better.

You've asked for feedback so why get defensive?

On a positive it's great that you want to stretch your skills. The black and white works however, I'm seeing a confused image.

I have no idea what the random patten is and the brain can't make any sense of it. Let's say your wife was a musician, and you transposed sheet music over her face. Knowing nothing about her this would suggest that she has a connection somehow to music.

So in summary a random, unclear and uncertain image creates confusion. To carry off a double exposure the second image has to compliment and not conflict or confuse the viewer.

I don't quite see why everyone is getting so worked up.

Having said that my starting point with communication of all kinds is that it is up to the communicator (in this case the artist = photographer) to make clear what is being communicated. So for me at this stage all that is missing is a title that gives the viewer a clue.

More generally I think it is perfectly ok for anyone to post an image that has a particular meaning for them/that they did for someone else that the other person liked even if the most people on here don't rate it. If nothing else they get some feedback that it doesn't work for others which may or may not be relevant to the photographer and subject.

Thanks Chris
I would have thought the subject line "Trying to get Creative" would have covered the first part
Anyway I will continue to try and improve on my PS skills and hopefully help take my photography to the next level.................I am continually adding new stuff to my website here and have recently started out on a new path which includes using lighting and flash photography

Thanks - one problem with forums is that getting a message across in writing is actually quite difficult because normally when people talk to each other there are a lot more clues eg tone of voice, intonation, hand gestures etc - so messages can easily be misunderstood or unclear.

For example .... I haven't made clear that what I was trying to get from you was some idea of the impression/feeling/message that you wanted the photo to convey about the lady in the picture. Of course this may be something very personal between you and your wife and you may not want to post that.

In any event the key people in this are you and your wife and you are both pleased with it so that's the important thing so far as I am concerned

not knowing the other image or its significance i don't get it artistically but i like the idea technically

might give this a go myself and see if i can achieve something similar
