I'm afraid it doesn't do much for me, it just seems a bit too cluttered for the scene. The exposure for the christmas lights themselves look overexposed also.

Sounds harsh but thats as honest as I can get.

sorry I too find it a little cluttered the lamp posts are not vertical either, and as said the lights are way over exposed, maybe worth another trip and try a faster shutter speed and maybe use an on camera spirit level, very useful little gadget

I echo the above. Lots of dead space on this image, the side of the house, the pavement. It's almost as if the lights are an afterthought.

OK, thanks. Thats good, I'm after comments on where to improve. I am planning on heading down the Newcastle Quayside shortly and wanted a go at some lights etc before trying.

So a shorter shutter speed for images like this. I struggled to get the lights etiher far too bright or the whole image was too dark.

Yes, I think a shorter shutter would bring a little detail back to the lights, they've gone a little too far.
