At present i have a Nikon D50 & Nikon 70-300 AF, I'm just about to hit the buy now button on a D3300 & AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED VR. I did look at the D5300 but the only real extras are the wifi & Gps of which you can buy a wifi adapter for round £30 if needed for the D3300. Any thoughts please.

Just in case it's not a typo, if you already have a 70-300 AFS, then you already have the VR model. There has only ever been one AFS version. Just wanted to check in case you ended up buying the same lens twice.

Both the D3300 and D5300 are going to be big leaps forward in most areas, particularly in terms of low light and printing big. They are both a little smaller and lighter which you could view as positive or negative. The D50 has a built in AF motor where as neither of the two cameras you're looking at have.

What sort of price difference is there between the D3300 and D5300? The D5300 has a few nice extra touches but not stuff you'd pay £100's for.

I have a 70-300 AF not AFS i will amend the above, The D3300 is £290 & the D5300 is £435

Ahh, that makes sense. The vr will be a great upgrade.

At that price difference, I'd go for the d3300. Well actually I might have for a used d7000.... :)

D7000's are so much easier to use. I had a play with someones d3200 at the weekend and after what seemed like the millionth time going into the menu to change a setting I was ready for chucking it through the window. It was much lighter than mine though which as said above could be a welcome bonus or a bit of a hindrance depending on whether that is important to you or not.

Incidently just been to shoot a gym with a mate who has just bought a d5300 but I didn't get chance to have a go with it. Screen looked good though.

I had a play with the D5300 & the D3300 today, I don't think i can justify the extra money
