Yeh, I think maybe it shows off the shadow and relief better.

Mono here too but I think you can do a more with the conversion to give it a bit more oomph.

Mono for me too, but yep, it's a bit grey and drab looking. The ideal black and white shot has a good black, a good white and as full a range of tones in between as possible - assuming they're there in the subject obviously. You have the black in your shot, but not the white, although you can get close to it with a bit of curves and contrast adjustment to give a bit more pizzaz.

B&W looks best to me, the only way the col version would look better is if the sun was setting on it and it made the sandstone all golden.

Yep mono for me as well

I'll concede that as there is not much colour in the original and stone is about texture it may as well be in mono

You can still add contrast and sharpen the colour version though....
