Winking Leopard Gecko

Depending on which screen I use I keep finding bits I haven't burnt out yet, but wondered what people think of the shot itself, using the blackened background?

Please ignore how much it has died uploading, it was sharp.......

What a beautiful Gecko . . . is he yours?

Normally I'm a massive fan of black b/g shots for reptiles, but I'm not quite sure that it's working here. With such pale skin I'm finding the contrast a bit too much, and I'm wondering whether something lighter may have worked better.
Also not keen on the "suspended in mid air" feeling in this one. I think it would have improved the shot if he had something visible to stand on - a piece of wood or a rock??? In fact I think that might actually reduce that stark contrast between the black and the Gecko.
