Here is a snake we saw on Sunday while trying to photograph the azure winged magpies in the forest near home. (Southern Spain)

Can anyone help identify it, is it a viperine ?

I would say that its more likely to be a ( harmless) smooth snake than a viper
going on the build and colouration.
fairly wide spread accross Europe but not common in the UK
