#1 and #3 are my favourites, I love the way #3 is positioned, framed, and the overall action feel to the shot.

#2 needs more space at the top of the pic, I'd almost be inclined to crop it with more space at the top and slightly less below.

#4 doesn't do anything for me, I don't like the position of the bird almost looking away, nor the crop, to me it doesn't suit the shape of the bird in the frame.

I pretty much agree with everything you say. On reflection I can clearly see now that 2 and 4 are not up to the mark. I only take the occasional bird photo, and my delight at getting something even half decent tends to override my judgement. Good crit. like yours will help me to remember that. Cheers.

I do think #4 still has something going for it because of the fly in the bird's beak but overall I take your point about it.
