Shot from the hotel room balcony... Not the greatest shot, it was very much a reaction shot as I couldn't believe it when I saw it...

For a hotel balcony grab shot, I'd be very happy with that. Isle of Mull by any chance??

Of course, the fact that you are paying for the room could lose a point or two if it then counts as a paid-for shot!

A well taken opportunity Steve, yes it has flaws that you are aware of, but, and it is a big but, for a "bugger me look at that" type shot whilst frantically reaching for the camera, it is not bad at all.

One thing you can change would be too recrop and have the bird less central, but that is subjective.

After having another look at the mother, it's actually a young Bald Eagle. I'm in Campbell River, British Columbia, on holiday at the moment.

Hopefully I'll get some more shots today before we move off again.
