weekly Clives TP52 2018 Week 1

Week 0, Round my way

At the moment 'my way' is Zagreb in Croatia, only until tomorrow, but as I got so far behind in 2017 I am determined to get a flying start in 2018.

This is the main square in Zagreb, Trg Bana Josipa Jelacica, taken with my lens cap fish eye, no De fishing software so complete with strange curves, taken on December 30th it will be packed solid tomorrow.

Happy New Year!

It is your area at the moment a festive shot getting ready for the new year. Enjoy the rest of your break and have a good new year

Nice one to start the whole challenge off with. Looks like you're first to post!!

Lens Cap fish eye? Is that something you screw into the filter thread to give a fish eye effect?
I will have to google. Sounds interesting.
Anyway. Interesting effect that you've produced. I like the motion combined with the static elements.
I appreciate you don't have de-fisheye software with you, but I feel it could perhaps do with a slight rotation clockwise.

I like the fish eye effect here and the motion blur in the people, nice busy scene.

Great shot Sir, well composed with some good atmosphere.(y)

George.

Welcome back Clive. (y)

It's got action, it's got colour .......... it's got some strange arty effect.(y)

Your area
I like the blue light on the left and the bright light on the right, together they hold the image in the frame.

I like that Clive the motion in creates a sense of whats going on.

I keep toying with hte idea of a fish eye I like the effect in your image.

Great start to your 2018 challange

Nice shot Clive, you've managed to capture a lot of different things in the one shot without it looking too busy. Good work

good choice in that they mean something personal to you, not sure on the angle and it looks a little soft, impressive bit of brickwork though

Clive,
I find the black near the bottom of the gate too black,,i feel there should be more detail there. It just appears to be a block of black. Perhaps reducing exposure or contrast in pp might help.

Agree with Allan that it does look soft, maybe you could of gone in closer to just get the shot of the black gate, but well done on getting the shot in for the theme

Contrast tweeked thanks, position was from an island in the road and the angle was to lose a lamp post .
Cheers for all your comments.

Nice start Clive, Lots going on and the motion blur adds to the effect. Personally prefer the first shot of the gate maybe just a slight lift in the shadows is needed but for me the colours are stronger. Very nice gates :D

Good subject for the theme, it's often difficult to get good angles on these kinds of things, good effort.

That's a really impressive looking gate, and wonderful that it holds a personal connection with your family history. I can see the problems you've had, being forced into this angle to avoid a post and the deep shadows at the foot of the gate. I agree with Georgina that the colours are more vibrant and striking in the first one, and possibly just a wee lift of the shadows might have added definition to the bottom bars of the gate without compromising the colour of the bricks and the contrast of the black and white. That's the trouble with photography, isn't it? Decisions and compromises everywhere! :) But that's a great subject for the theme.

The tweak to brighten the image up has worked Clive, though it is still a little soft.
I had a play trying to see if anything could be done with the angles, but couldn't come up with anything better than you have :)
Don't you hate it when councils put roadside furniture in the way of good shots :/

I quite like the strong blacks of the original post, thanks posting the plaque too.

I like the angle but I think it wants to be super-sharp on the gate with a more blurry background.

As others have said, the colours are great in the first shot and just needs the shadows lifting a bit on the black paintwork.

+1 for the first one Clive. The second seems to have bleached out the whites and the interesting tones in the brickwork. As others have said lifting the shadows might have been sufficient for those blacks. Interesting shot though and I like the family connection

Interesting gate .... the angle work capturing two (or 3!) elevations of the building.

Gate
It's the edited version for me, it's got more punch to it.
