Airshow RIAT. Is the 55-250mm on 450D sufficient?

Hi,
I'm looking for advice from people who use the 55-250mm at the RIAT airshow. I also have a 6D but the longest focal length for FF is an old Tamron 70-200. I have used the 55-250mm(on the 450D) at Duxford which was just about okay but I hear that at RIAT the crowds and flying distance require much longer lenses. Anyway interested in what your experience is.

The last time I was at RIAT, I used a 20D and a Sigma 70-300 APO.

Will be using a 50D and 100-400mm MkII this time..

I can't say I've ever been to RIAT so I won't be much use, but what do you intend to do with the prints afterwards?
With the 450D you should have enough resolution to do some moderate cropping and still have a perfectly good image for an online portfolio, etc. Not ideal if you're planning to make reasonable size prints though, because you'd need as much resolution as possible for the final result.

Last time I did an airshow was Eastbourne a few years go armed with a 7D and 70-200mm f4, which was spot on. I did have the advantage of being at the top of the building on the end of the pier, however that won't be an available luxury this year as it burned down :(

I also have never been but this year I am going and decided to hire a 100-400mm mark 1 to put on my 70d.

I think my final output would be A4 for just the odd few, most of them would be high quality for FB. I may have to look into renting a lens. Thanks to all who replied.
