Starting us off for 2018 is the theme THE DECISIVE MOMENT.

Entries to be posted in this thread by 23:59 on Wednesday 31st January 2018. A poll will go up for seven days afterwards.

Entries must be SHOT ON FILM, and must be TAKEN ON OR AFTER THE 1ST DECEMBER 2017.

This thread is for entries only. The rules and themes can be found here, and the discussion thread for 2018 is here.

Good luck all (y)

I've really struggled with this and so I'm going to have enter a far from perfect shot (again :D). Nikon F80, Sigma 28-200mm lens, Kodak Portra 400, Leighton Moss RSPB reserve.

Take Off.

Mamiya 645 1000s. I have a million photos that would fit this month perfectly, but theres only two taken in the right time period! Anywho, this is my choice. Juggler and someone walking by and noticing. Leading lines.

Well done everyone (and we all have points!).

Nice shot @Carl Hall - You're a dedicated fellow to attempt a shot like that on film. It's not like digital where you can just shoot away until you get the shot at no extra cost.

Absolutely agree.

Confused! Thought this year were assigning points on position and not taking into account ties.

So Carl 10
Sirch 9
FishyFish 8
Mrs Snap 7
Dmb, slyesslar 6
ChrisR, PeterB, Andysnap and mothdust 5

Nope, it was discussed but not changed.

In the event that the number of votes for two (or more) entries is the same, they will be considered a tie and receive the same amount of points. In this situation, the next person down will receive points for the actual place, not adjusted based on the draw. (i.e. a draw for third place would mean the results 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 5th, 6th).

Re-read rules did you mean to have top points as 12 as well?

Actually I think @dmb is right, I just ballsed up the last few scores. My bad!

I'll sort that out now (y)

edit- actually I got them all wrong, good start to the year o_O

Gimme two minutes folks...

So are we only awarding points down to 6th or equal 6th again?

Nope, we're going all the way down to 1, we just didn't get enough entries to make it down that far
Ah ok, thanks Carl and congrats on the win, awesome shot (y)

This month the missing folk could have got points for a shot of their kitchen clock!

Thanks all :)

Don't tell anyone, but I did take some photos on my DSLR along side so that I could figure out the right exposure. I'm currently writing it all down on a blog post, so will post it up later in case anyone else ever tries high speed photos and finds it useful. :)

Well my entry would have been exploding rockets from new year's day and would have posted if Asda was still operating.....but having already two finished rolls to send off to Filmdev decided to finish two more rolls in two different cameras and send four rolls off together.....erm but too cold for me to take shots outside so using the film up now at home for "still life".

Snip:

I don't think there's anything wrong with using a DSLR to take a test shot to check exposure and depth of field, etc. After all, what's the difference between doing that and a photographer using a Polaroid back on their camera to take test shots in the days when film was the only option? It cuts down on wasting film and that helps the environment, so a double win there. If we get too purist about things then we wouldn't even allow ourselves to use a light-meter, let alone use autofocus or Programme AE.

Mind you, I once read that Ansel Adams apparently frowned upon exposure bracketing, saying it was for people who didn't know what they were doing, or words to that effect. If so, I wonder what he'd make of today's digital camera users chimping away until they got a reasonable photo?!

I nearly entered a blank page for the FPOTY Decisive Moment as the only one I had during the time was when I realised I couldn't be arsed with this month at all :)

Ooo, I can see that, nice big kitchen clock with the second hand 1 second away from midnight, subtle hints of a new-year's party in the background, nice take on the decisive moment :D

Could have been a shot of the telly with some reality "star" either winning or getting bombed out?
