    Bag for two Lightstands

Hi. Just to update my earlier post in this thread... I bought a large hockey kit bag - Mazon tour plus combo - the extra space suiting my needs for extra bits. It looks and feels very robust. It has comfortable shoulder straps and wheels. Time will tell but I'm quite optimistic.

    Lightroom library

Not so much for images. My lightroom preview lrdata file is currently 7.24GB video files backup images of disks. A 15GB compressed backup file of my website. etc Thats not to say fat 32 isn't still handy - just beware of its limitations as I'd personally hit those more often than needing a...

Fair point. Beware the 4GB limit though.

    Back-up hard drive storage options

No. Its a backup methodology. A device would be an external hard drive, NAS or server. What you do depends on how careful you want to be and how much you want to spend. First figure on a single hard drive failing. Then figure on a power supply failing affecting all backups on each hard drive...

You can always test it yourself using bootcamp to see if you have a preference.

A windows formatted drive can be read by macs but not written to without some third party software.

    Beginner Recognising a good shot

If you see something you like, work the subject. Move around and take lots of images from different angles, apertures, focal lengths, compositions, etc. Get home and analyse them. See what works for you and meets your personal tastes. You may often find something that works better than you'd...

Where to get my picture printed

+1 DSCL Good prints, customer service, reliability, turn around time. Not as saturated canvases for landscapes, but decent for portraits.

    Home Studio - minimum size?

Yes its restrictive but you can still have a lot of fun. Paint the walls a dark grey and you can put a coloured gel on the background light to save on further backdrop space. Arrange things so that as steven said, you can open the garage doors to give yourself more working room with longer...

    Upgrade to FX

I shoot portraits primarily. I've got the d300s and d810. I'd happily use either in most situations. I moved from canons X0D range of crop cameras and L glass. I personally find the AF better and skin tones more to my liking, or easier to attain in photoshop. The dynamic range is better in my...

    Shots The You Regret missing.

And then theres the shots you regret taking... On the way back from the Oktoberfest in Munich a friend in our party kept failing when going through the airport metal detectors so got carted off by security for a strip search. As we all laughed I pulled out the (film) camera and took a quick...

A word of warning - Maple Framing Ltd

I’d forgotten about this thread as its 2 years old now. I placed a quick order from maple for 100 12x8 strut mounts as my usual supplier had run out. I received only 97 and 2 were damaged due to insufficient packaging. I emailed the company stating this and asked how they suggest we proceed. I...

    Upgrade to FX

Hi Scott. So you want more quality and detail and wondering if fx/dx is the answer. I understand that. You seem to do primarily landscapes from what I've seen from a glance at your link. Have you ever shot alongside someone with a different camera shooting the same scene to see the difference in...
