Nikon Macro 105 - better than Tamron ?

The Nikon's AF is very fast for a macro which makes it a good all-rounder as well as for macro. Nikon's teleconverters also work with it.

Canon 500 f4 IS (mki) - Grainy images

A lens cannot normally introduce noise, although noise can become more visible if the lens is underexposing slightly and you have to compensate for it in post processing. There may be several reasons for this: the lens may be faulty, or slightly under spec, or you might be focussing at the short...

    Thanks anyway.

    Backpack for Nikon 500mm F4 FL + D500?

It came with a large flight case which is very good for protection from knocks but it isn't very practical if you have to carry it away from the car. Bird hides often involve a hike to get there. Also with a big enough bag the lens can be attached to the camera ready to go.

    Backpack for Nikon 500mm F4 FL + D500?

Too big for you all eh? ;) I've gone for the Think Tank Glass Limo.

    Backpack for Nikon 500mm F4 FL + D500?

Hoping to land the new model Nikon 500mm F4 FL shortly and my current Manfrotto Tri backpack is too small. Can anyone recommend a backpack big enough with the camera attached, and with perhaps space for a single smaller lens as well? Thanks.

    South-West England Bluebell fields

Close ups of a few bluebells with a medium wide-angle from a very low viewpoint so you get the blue carpet effect behind them can work.

Close. Travelling east from the B4226, Speech House Road, take the undesignated road right where the house lies. Pass the house on your left and the turning is a couple of hundred yards past it on your left. It is marked The Cyril Hart Arboretum. Hope I wasn't too late replying..

Thought I'd resurrect this thread as we're coming up to the bluebell season again soon. Prior's Wood near Bristol is an absolute gem.

Just to stick my oar in: Check out the "Log". There's a car parking area next to Speech House which is specifically for the arboretum. Parking is in a circle around a large cut down tree trunk. Birders know it as The Log. Locals top it up with bird food daily and there's always a continuous...

    Nikkor 200-500?

The 200-500mm hood does snap into place but the snap isn't as positive as I would like. Having said that, mine hasn't fallen off so far. I'm surprised at the report of the Sigma Sport being as good/better. I suspect that some micro-adjustment might have helped the Nikon lens. Mine benefits...

    Relatively expensive glass

Differences reveal themselves more with longer focal lengths when shooting wildlife as you're often going to need to crop. A cheap 70-300mm lens isn't going to cut it for small birds but a 300mm F4 can take a teleconverter and still be able to be cropped while retaining good detail. With longer...

    Which 300mm?

The Nikon 200-500mm is a cracking lens, very sharp and good enough to take a 1.4x teleconverter that should AF on your D7200. The only possible negative is that AF could be a bit quicker, especially with the TC. I also use the 300mm F4 PF which will AF with the 1.7x TC and give 510mm at F6.7...

    Sensor cleaning

I presume you put something over the swab? I use a plastic fork with the prongs cut off and sanded smooth as a wand with a pec pad wrapped around the end. A couple of drops of Eclipse 2 solution on the tip and a two-swipe wipe usually works to get rid of any stubborn dust. It's important to...

    Nikkor 200-500?

Personally I wouldn't put a 3rd party TC in front of a £1200 Nikon lens. I DO know that it works well with the Nikon TC14-III on the D500 although AF struggles with the faster birds in flight. I've also used it occasionally with the TC17-II: Click on the image for bigger. DSC_1584 by Mike, on...
