A good science kit for my 9 year old?

    Not in my experience.

A good science kit for my 9 year old?

I find the microstructure of materials more interesting to look at, although you might struggle getting bits of metal or ceramic underneath the optics.

What is your best photo you have taken in 2013 and why?

TBH not really done much shooting last year, unfortunately, so not got much I'm that happy with. Self Portrait by redddraggon, on Flickr only one landscape trip of the year, and no other real trips or holidays anywhere, which is way down on previous years. But 2014 should see me do more...

    Car tyres a minefield ?

I'm not entirely convinced, In my (small but growing) experience of the tyre industry the big companies do most of the R&D, they source western rubber making equipment (Michelin have told one of their suppliers if they move their production to the east they'll change supplier), they also tend to...

What does the collective think of this then

Did you miss the "" around the word "religion"?

What does the collective think of this then

He's a bit of a dick. Richard Dawkins is an Religious Extremist, just because his "religion" is atheism doesn't mean he's not as annoying as the crazy christians or muslims.

    What is going on?!

Take images in the shade then. Your camera will always struggle with such a big dynamic range.

How does one get such crisp landscape photographs?

No you take multiple images changing the focus distance while keeping the same f/stop.

    What is going on?!

You need to get consistent lighting across the whole group. Ideally not in strong sunlight as you get unwanted shadows. The issue to me looks like your positioning of the group in mottled light.

Is an i7 920 quick enough?

I have an i7 930, with 12GB RAM, 2 x 5870 GFX, and I can play all games. Although if I wanted better GFX it's only the old 5870s holding me back.

any good films about? *CONTAINS SPOILERS*

I went to see Rush on Friday night. Was really looking forward to seeing it, but I've just started a new job with rather different hours to that of a student, went for a few pint beforehand, and I was fast asleep 10 mins into the film :(

    What is going on?!

Is the issue that the images are soft? To be honest I wouldn't worry about the focusing I'd concentrate on getting the lighting correct first. You've got half the group until strong sunlight and the other half under shade.

    Any malt whisky fans in?

So my sister's husband worked with Robert Englund on his latest film and got a bottle of Maker's Mark as a thank you. And it's ended up as my birthday present, I wasn't expecting much from a Bourbon but it's not too bad.
