    Pedal Power Thread

Only took road cycling up in May as something to get me off the fags. Im doing most of my cycling around Rugby and Milton Keynes (the latter is where I work) and I've been using 12-27 without too much hassle. The cassette and chain were well worn, as my bike was a press demo bike, so after...

    Overnight stops in Brittany

At the end of July, we’re doing our annual French trip with the kids and just need some info on somewhere to stop overnight on the way. Stupidly, I forgot to book the ferry to Roscoff and subsequently all the St Malo sailings that fitted our time slot were gone. So I’ve opted for a 4:20pm tunnel...

Are there any carp anglers on here?

Now the weathers getting better, hoping to get out more after a few of these. I work in the tackle trade but just get enough chances these days... Lots of photos of other people but not enough time for my own fishing. Looking forward to targeting a few of the MK canal stretches this summer...

    Which RAW format compact camera?

I wouldn't worry too much, I shoot for fishing mags and the tackle company I work for and have only ever had two water-based 'incidents' with kit, both being my fault and not the elements ruining kit. If you're worried about dirt you'd have a fit if you saw my kit!!! :) Anyway, for selfies I...

What New Gear Have You Purchased This Week?

Ha - yes, each box was savoured. I actually sniffed each box, a'la Froknowsphoto. They just smelled of cardboard ;) We ordered through Jessops' corporate but all stock was dealt through its Reading store, which is apparently one of the flagship stores. They were really prompt, very...

What New Gear Have You Purchased This Week?

Yes, lots of fun choosing and then subsequently opening the boxes :) My work paid for it because I've been using my own kit. We ended up going through jessops - the retail price was something like £8800 but it came in a tad over £8000, so a substantial saving. The photo is the cupboard next to...

What New Gear Have You Purchased This Week?

The tokina was a second choice because of stock at Jessops - I'd originally gone for a Nikon version but it wasn't available and I needed the kit quickly. I have faith in Tokina stuff so no sweats. I was toying with getting the 14-24 f/2.8 but with no filter attachment, it wouldn't have worked...

What have you done with your camera today

Photographed carp fishing bivvies and bed hairs in the studio. Plus I filmed some slow-motion ping pong on the office table tennis table (say that fast!!)

Wide angle lens for D7000, shooting children indoors

Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 was probably my fave wide angle on my D2x/D7000, closely followed by the 12-24mm f/4 Tokina. Great value glass. The extreme wide FoV is nice because DoF is less critical because everything looks sharp unless it's super-close up stuff.

    Nikon D750 & D780

Received my D750, plus a load of other goodies, earlier this week and it doesn't seem to be displaying the flare issue. To be fair, I'd put the order through about 6 weeks ago and wasn't aware if the issue until a mate pointed it out. Anyway, WHAT A CAMERA!!! I've been using D7000s for a few...

    Estate cars: opinions please...

It's been back to VW for a recall on something to do with Piezo injectors, so kind of feel assured that it's going to be okay.

    Estate cars: opinions please...

Mine has done 90,000 miles so that was one if the reasons it was probably a bit cheaper. RE: tyres - I had 18s on my Volvo and used to get Falkens/Avons and other mid- range tyres that came in about £100-110 each. Never had any issues with them and they lasted well. Even had a pair of budget...

    Estate cars: opinions please...

I got bored of either missing cars or travelling to see ones that weren't anywhere near the 'immaculate' description in Autotrader. I did settle on a 58-reg Citroen C5 that had only done 60k but I decided against it; beautiful car with great cabin build but it was the 1.6 deisel and I was a...
