Canon 5D MK I 'classic' - owners thread

@ Leigh - I'm pretty sure you don't need to apologise seeing as it's your DVD that you've generously offered to share with us!

cheers Al, yeah i know.. it was just because i'd missed a few people off the list -but it's sorted now. The only thing we're missing is the actual DVD itself :bonk:

It's not looking good either if Dave's inbox is full (i know i've got at least 1 message in there though) and he's had it since July

Oh dear - I'm guessing the mods must have the email he signed up with, I wonder if they are willing to share it?

Would seem that he hasn't been on line since the 11th Oct.
No not willing to share, but willing email on your behalf :)

Im here! Guys im everso sorry. Really didnt mean to cause anyone any worry over there DVD's whereabouts. Its here safe and sound, and I have pm'd AKR for his address.

It did indeed get returned by the postie while I was away, but in a host of other stuff I have got going on in life it got buried under a pile of stuff and forgotten about. I have a brain like a seive im afraid. The fact I dont get emails when I recieved pm's on here doesnt help (though I think ive just rectified that).

Anyway...ignore my excuses. My cock up, and im genuinely sorry.

Good lad Dave... at least we're back on track again (y)

A few people were slagging you off left, right and centre but i always kept the faith :cautious:

Have received Dave's PM - we are back on track (y)

Rather than start a new thread I thought I'd ask the 5d gurus on here. (y)

Anyone use manual lenses with their 5d? I have a range of manual focus Nikon cameras and lenses and I fancy trying full frame digital but can't afford a D700.

How much functionality do you get using an adapter? Is it just stop down metering?

It would be mainly for landscape and cityscape not anything requiring speed of use or (obviously) AF.

Thanks.

The lenses only work as preset lenses with the adapter. Focusing works with the EE-S screen, but isn't as easy as on most Nikon film models (see previous posts).

For landscape and buildings that probably won't be a problem, just zone focus with the lens' depth of field indicators.

Just to confirm received the DVD today off Dave. Taz I'll be in contact once I'm done.

Any chance I could get myself added to the DVD list please? My camera should arrive in a few days :)

I've just picked up a few Nikon lenses that I use on my 5D. I have an adaptor, it doesn't have AF confirm though.

The next thing I need is a split focus screen...

I've just downsized my kit to a 5D and sigma 50mm f1.4.

And the mirror has just fallen out!

Hopefully canon are still doing free repairs!

There are the usual suspects called Kiwifotos, Fotodiox, Novoflex, Metabones and Kippon. The most renowned chinese sellers are Big-is and jinfinance.

Generally, as long as the adapters are made from brass, they should work fine. Infinity could be a problem, hasn't been for me though.

I'd be interested to know too - keep us informed Gary if you don't mind.

I contacted Fixation, they said to send the camera in so I did on Monday (RMSD).

Had a call off them today saying the repair had been done and the camera will be back to me tomorrow (Friday).

All FOC!

Got the camera back, nice and clean. Won't be able to test it until tonight.

From what I have read on the internet even if your mirror hasnt fallen out and your camera hasnt had the rework you can get the work done FOC.

It's not worth the risk damaging the rear ellement of a lens.

Does anyone find it takes ages for RAW files to move from the camera to the pc? It takes so much longer than RAW from my 500d...

It isn't all that bad, I bought mine from Jessops for something like £7 and so far it hasn't ever let me down, it's the only one I've ever bought and I got a USB lead thingy with it.

just upgraded my 300d to a 5 this week, cant wait to go out and have a play this weekend. Now need to save up and get a few more bits to go with it

Had my 5D lose its mirror earlier this fall and they repaired it free of charge.. and while they had it in bits they put in a new shutter assembly as well just for the price of the replacement parts needed - no work charged.

Old warhorse is now good as new with all moving parts replaced at about £60 total.

Will be joining the club later today, can anyone suggest a lens to get me started with? I have an 80-200 f2.8l drainpipe but need something for the misses to buy me for Xmas budget about £125 or less

At £125 or less you're basically looking at the nifty fifty EF 50/1.8.

Personally I've been happier with 40mm equivalents like the 20/1.7 on GF1 .. Considering a Voigtlander 40/2 for my 5D now :)

5D+Siggy 85mm.

This. 50mm on FF is my favourite walk around combination.

plus... the camera sits on the table without falling over when you stop off for a pint with a 50mm on it :D

Love my 5D with it's full-frame senser , If changed would I get the 7D with it's fast frame rate ? or would I get the 5D2 with more pix:? why don't you all club together and get me both ?>
