Another fantastic day chasing the hunt across the Staffordshire Moorlands!

Bloodhound hunting does not involve hunting animals. Bloodhounds hunt a human scent, they send a runner out about an hour before and the bloodhounds chase his scent. Keeps tradition going, no animals hurt in the making!

A fantastic day, if you are near to a hunt at any time I would recommend chasing it, a fantastic sight and sound when they come thundering past!

Here are a few shots, the rest can be found on my website if you would like to view them - http://www.ravenphotography.co.uk/Four-Shires-Bloodhound-January

#1, #4 & #5 for me Jenna, #2 & #3 a bit tight in the frame :)

nice set jenna last one is spoilt by someone in a hi vis :( clone him out (y)

#1 is the winner for me. It has captured action and atmosphere and is great colour and composition.

Methinks I could post pics I took at my local Boxing Day hunt.... In a new thread of course.

Ditto from me :) I also like the monochrome one, it's just crying out to be used by the hunt for their publicity blurb!
A good set there Jenna, I like following the local hunt but the weather/light's rarely great for the tog is it:)

There is something very special about a pack of single breed dogs exsisting together, excellent pictures and I have to admit that following a hunt is always something that I have wanted to do but have been a little reluctant just to turn up and expect a welcome but maybe I could be advised otherwise?

....It's the same as turning up anywhere where you don't already know people. You just have to be friendly and respectful. At a hunt, as soon as people realise you're not there to disrupt it they'll be fine with you and respond normally - That is 'normally' in the way that English people do as they can tend to be somewhat reserved.

If you are taking photos, show people some of them - It's easy on a camera which has a LCD screen. Most people like to see pics of themselves (or their horses or dogs).

#2 is cropped too tight on the heads... Otherwise absoloutly love this set :)

Excellent photos of a not easy subject in my opinion. 1and 4 are superb. You should share them with the the huntsmen/women I am sure they would be pleased.

Also can't help wondering what at bw conversion of 4 (hounds) would look like.

Lovely set Jenna, I just love watching hounds of all breeds running together, an amazing sight.

Thanks guys, the hunt do use and share my photographs and quite a few are purchased from my website by riders.

I was actually asked to photograph this one this time!

Anyone can go and follow a hunt, the people are very friendly and it is quite exciting! Just follow everyone else and you will pop out in front of them most times as with drag hunting the route is pre-planned.

The only problem with fox hunting (drag) is that sometimes you get the hunt sabs there and in my opinion a lot of them are just d**ks. They pull people off there horses and they will smash your camera if they think you are with the hunt.

This is why I love Bloodhound hunting so much, none of that rubbish and a very, very friendly atmosphere.

Here is their website and list of meets if anyone would like to check them out. The next one I will be attending will be Chatsworth on the 16th February.

Cool images, great exercise for the hounds and the people and horses, a great day allround I'd say.
Reckon you had a fab time, it's evident in your photos.

Yeah it must be really good fun seeimg a fox chased across country by a pack of dogs and a load of dressed up knobs on horseback........ Then at the end you get to see the fox torn to pieces!

only if you can get good pics of it all :)

Not my idea of fun!

Yeagh i a gathered that.. hence my reply.. not my cup of tea either.. but I tend not to be a drama queen about it.. plus the OPs pictures always impress me.. partially because its somehting I will probably never have the chance to photogrpah... you dont get any of that round accrington :)

Hmm, I am very tempted to join in and explain a few basics to you, Paul, but I doubt it would cause you to modify your views and such a discussion would be somewhat off-topic for this thread of photographs.

There are Tony, one has to know where to look.

Not getting into the hunting/shooting question, as most are badly ill informed, from both sides I hasten to add.

As for the shots, the first one stands out a mile as the best, have you tried a B&W conversion on it?

Fantastic set.

I grew up surrounded by these sights and sounds.

Its like everything else involving the human race (to the bottom) that fox, is a b*****d, hunt it down and kill it, That government is a b*****d, that group of people i don't know, must be bastards. Because 'I' exist, everything I don't know or understand must be wrong so it's okay to persicute it and wipe it out so that my little world is understandable for me.

My little world has been shrinking ever since I stood on two feet and had no evolutionary competition. Therefore the fox...the...whatever, is all expendable so long as we decide we are right, and as the highest order of life as we know it, f*** everything else! We are the most important and cannot be wrong therefore whatever we do, if it pays and feels good... why not.

End of rant.

I'm having a bad day.

Pics were quite good though:)

I really don't like this new forum layout and blasphemy control and the smilies are crap.

Thanks for the apology, Accepted and much appreciated. TBH theres not much point in us discussing if I was or was not being a drama queen. If comments on fox hunts are posted then you are going to get both pro and anti comments.

100% agree... but it can be done without insulting the poeple taking part IMHO ...

Wow. Not really sure where to start with that comment.
Amazingly misinformed.

The pictures are cracking, on both a technical and subject level.
Number 1 is my pick.

Did you get to catch any hedge hopping?

The OP has already stated that they are drag hounds.
Yes I have seen them "almost" kill their quarry too.
Well that is they all but lick the runner to death when they catch him / her.

Can we all make like little trains and get back on track.
Thank you kindly.

Nice set Jenna (y)

Well this got out of hand. This isn't even drag hunting. It's called hunting the clean boot. Before anyone goes off on a rampage please do your research.

Bloodhounds do not hunt animals. They chase a human scent. No foxes, no animals of any kind. They chase a human runner and on the odd occasion that they catch him, yes they kill him. With kisses and slobber I mean.

Bloodhound hunting is almost a solution to fox hunting. It's very relaxed and very friendly. Perfect for beginners and the sabs love it because there is no real hunting involved.
