The Wonderful Pixie Rothwell

Just a question (definitely not crit)... why have you composed the photo so the model is a bit "off centre"?

Cheers guys!

The watermark is a standard part of my website, I do a lot of event photography and a lot of my pictures are stolen so this is just easier. It's not for any other reason. I don't like it either.

In terms of the composition, it is one of a few I took in a doorway and there was a bloody red box on the wall behind, and the light was coming on an angle, in that particular doorway, this was the best composition.

I do wish I had separated the hair with a further light though, I see this now thank you.

It nice enough ( so long as the client loves it then that's all that matters) so, apart from the lack of separation on the BG/Hair it's a good shot - I see from the exif you shot this in "Auto" mode any reason why, just curious?

also, do you have any more I'd love to see them

Les

Ps: I would tone down the opacity in the Watermark

I like it, drawn straight to the eyes.

I don't mind the watermark and understand completely why it's there ;)

I like this - great expression and good lighting on the face. The logo is a major distraction but you clearly feel the need to have it where it is. Couldn't it be somewhere else?

My only real dislike is the position of the hands - flat on to the camera makes them look large and very bright, and slightly forced. it also exposes the tattoo which is completely out of character for the shot.

There are a few little things I'd have tried to sort - if I'd spotted them at the time. I hope you don't feel I'm being too picky but you did ask for feedback, these are all small things:
  • As you say a bit more background separation would be ideal. Rather than light the hair I might have tried to light the background, which looks interesting and in keeping with the style of the shot.
  • It would be cleaner, I think, if the hair was clear of the (model's left) eye
  • It's cropped a bit tight on the top and right for comfort.
  • The bow coming over the shoulders looks a bit odd, bare(r) shoulders would be better
  • I'd prefer to see more of the decollette - but I now notice she has a tattoo there too. Wrong model for this shoot, I think.
  • I might have tried turning the model's shoulders slightly to give a more dynamic and flattering pose. At the same time I'd hope to get a bit more shadow to emphasise the structure of the neck & clavicle a little more.

I like the photo, composition, clothing, even the background - looks "genuine" - except, for the tattoo, maybe have got that covered up for that authentic look as I'm sure tat's weren't a popular thing back in the 20's and 30's :)

Guys I really appreciate all your wonderful feed back! I have a western cowboy shoot this Saturday evening with a woman and her horse and I shall be putting all of this into practice!
