The new toy is out and it looks shinier than ever... Is anyone thinking of buying, particularly the curved edge version?

http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...axy-s6-release-date-news-and-features-1232945

Personally I can't stop thinking that while there is nothing really wrong with their high end phones, the market has already moved on where you can buy great android phone for £200 or less. Maybe that is their problem. 2x price needs something very special to justify.
Also the curved one will look odd in the protective TPU gel case. Maybe it is just me, but that thing is usually the difference between a mint used phone and a smashed one (P.S. I've never smashed a phone just in case you are already jumping on me as always).

I think they should do a much cheaper, plastic but decent phone like Moto G (which easily tops all cheap samsungs) and a premium one from titanium, not glass or bendy aluminium.

I'm due an upgrade this year and I've been waiting to hear about the specs for the S6 and now I have seen them I am no overly impressed.
One of the features I have always likes about them was the micro SD slot but they have now done away with it and the battery will no longer be removable which is a shame as I have always liked having a spare battery handy.
However, at least the entry version is 32GB so it it will fine for my needs but I am still not sure whether to stick with Samsung.
The likes of oneplus are going to start having a major impact on the Android market this year so I might just wait a bit longer before retiring my S3.

Will be a real shame if they are doing away with the micro SD slot
I use a 64 gb one in my S3 that was one reason for getting the S3
hopefully the new model will mean that the price of the S5 will drop

I'm thinking about the S5 as well but some of the other companies have caught up with Samsung so could be worth waiting a few more months.

That sounds interesting maybe I'll get a sim only contract when mine finishes for a while to see what happens:)

Edit just noticed in your post that the battery is not removable either in the S6
the battery is my S3 is not lasting very long now, Ive ordered a new one but what happens when the S6 is two years old and the battery is buggered?

It's obvious, isn't it? You throw away the phone and get a new one. Or alternatively pay for Samsung to disassemble the phone and install a new battery. £100 maybe?

Yeah I know but seems a bit of a waste
I'm planning to keep my next phone longer this time but I know most people dont think like that

I've not heard of any major problems with phones that have fixed batteries, as far as I am aware that has been the case for every generation of the iphone.
The original battery in my S3 still holds a good charge as does the replacement and I've had it nigh on 3 years.
Up to and including the S3 I was an advocate of the Samsung android phones but the introduction of KNOX security on the S4 annoyed me because as soon as you root the phone, it is flagged and can potentiallly void the warranty and apps like titanium backup require root access.

Yes maybe it's just me being heavy handed with it but the battery doesn't seem to last as long as it used to
as you say the iPhone batteries are ok , the missus has had an iPhone 4 for a while now and the battery is still good

It looks okish. If it was my money for an Android phone I'd still spend it with the Oneplus one.

I hadn't heard of the Oneplus one until your post
I've just googled, it looks amazing value for money definitely worth considering when my contract runs out
64GB version £292 on amazon

As well as Oneplus, check this out: http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note-6217.php
Xiaomi are also making headway with cheap, high spec android phones.
A friend of mine has bought a Oneplus One for his other half and he said he is very impressed with it.

It is not just the cost, the build quality is amazing. Absolutely brilliant, it feels very good.....

The major problem is limited 4G bands and a rather big size.

Yes it does look a really nice bit of kit
the screen looks very good

Yes in the UK you are limited to EE but that wouldn't be a problem for me they are the only network in my area thats half decent
I'm not sure yet about what size of smartphone to go for the big screen appeals but may be to big to be practical

I used that model as an example, they have other models as well but for anyone looking to buy a Samsung Note 3/4, it could be a solution.
Personally I am not bothered about 4G, I don't use 3G that much and mainly use my phone via wifi.

What abiout Three?
A friend of mine in London uses them and has said the 4G service is excellent.

Good point thanks but unfortunately the three network coverage isn't so good where I live in North east Wales
I was with three previously and the reception was very poor in some areas
EE isn't perfect I sometimes struggle to get 3G let alone 4G

Oh excellent point. I didn't realise that regarding the 4G bands. Yes so best to check it.

The big size wouldn't bother me but everyone is different. I've now been using my iPhone 6+ 128GB since September and I can do everything (bar swimming) that anyone does in a tampon advert :)

I've been cycling, dog walking, leave it in my pocket when driving a car, been horse riding, gone to work in a suit. You name it and it is absolutely fine and not bent ;)

My friend has the Oneplus and like my iPhone 6+ he can easily get two days of battery life. That to me is the biggest game changer. Like last night I forgot to charge mine, but no panick plenty of electricity left to get me through the day and home.

WJust looked at the 1+1... looks great :)

I've held off getting a new phone since my sone z1 is performing well and the camera is brilliant.
Whats the camera like on the 1+1?

Not found anything to replace my Nexus 5 yet, I've got no problems with it at all so don't see the need to replace it, and there isn't much out there that really offers anything over the N5 for what I use it for.

The S6 Edge does look amazing though, I'm diggin' the curves :)

I quite like the Nexus devices as they are not supplied with loads of useless bloatware, I've still got the 2012 Nexus 7 tablet and use it daily.
I nearly upgrade to a Nexus 5 but 16GB is not enough for me and at the time the 32GB version wasn't available on an upgrade.
The Nexus 6 is also quite tempting so I will see what is available when my upgrade is due in April.
Another good thing about the Nexus range of android phones is that they tend to do upgrades for the next version of Android, they are releasing Lollipop for the 2012 Nexus 7 and considering that device is 3 years old this year, that's impressive.

I had my Nexus 5 lifted  and bought a Moto G 2nd Gen as a stop gap until I could get a new Nexus 5

5 months on I still have the Moto G, does what I need it to do, has 2 SIM cards slots, SD card expansion available, excellent battery life and quick to charge

Nexus 6 does look great, however it doesn't offer much over the 5 and to be honest the 5 is the largest screen size I'd go for, I've got the 32Gb and have bags of room.

I was a little like this, I took a sim only deal with 3 mobile as I was a little bit "meh" with all the new phones. I'm happy with the z1 but its incresingly spending more time plugged in the the mains than normal. My head ruled out the z2/3 as its not much diffrent. I was going to get a new nexus but then could not ok it in my head at that price (sim free) so I ended up getting the one+one.

Still got 6months left of my Galaxy S5. I'm not one for fussing and getting moist over the latest tech but it does look pretty nice. At least since I have sometime before my contract upgrade it will be a good time to see if any problems arise with the S6.

Not sure about the s6 myself. I have recently bought a s5 (upgraded) version. It is silky smooth with the 805 processor. The big draw for me is the 64 bit processor on the S6 and the potential of 64 bit apps but that's miles away I think.

However there are a lot of limiting factor on s6 namely the lack of USB3, micro SD, relatively small battery capacity. It doesn't feel like a game change more of a version S5.0.2.

It's massive premium is not attractive either.

Now the interacting thing is the stock ROM that the phone will come with which is bloat free. So that's quite attractive as I am a massive fan for stock ROM rather than asop ROM and fiddling with custom kernals to make CPU ramp up and down etc.
